FYI: Keeping your coffee hot

If you're like me you like your coffee to be hot, in the winter, but keeping your coffee maker on all day bothers you. The answer I found is to brew my pot of coffee then pour it into an insulated thermos (I use the one like my husband uses for work).  It keeps it hot all day and I'm not running my coffee maker any longer than I have to!

Hot coffee... conserving energy... It's a glorious thing!

FYI: Keeping your drain from clogging with everyday use

I think we've all learned not to put grease down our drains ... boy I hope everyone has!  However, my parents recently had to have the plumber come out because their kitchen sink was clogged.  Come to find out it was grease, but they are really careful about not putting it down their drain (after Mom having the habit years ago! *lol* )  The plumber said handwashing your dishes can cause a build up of grease over time, if you are letting your sink drain AFTER the water cools and AFTER the soap suds have begun to dissolve.

The solution: Use HOT water to wash your dishes with Dawn dishsoap (plenty of suds) and drain the sink before it gets cold or the suds start to break down.   And doesn't hurt to put a teakettle of HOT water down your sink once a week.

FYI: How to get my very stubborn dog to take his meds.

My mini dachshund, Turbo, was really being stubborn about taking his meds after having surgery to pin his broken leg. He could smell them over everything!  I tried cheese, peanut butter, sausage and eggs (his fave!) and yes even tried the side of the mouth thing and putting it in the back of his mouth.  None worked and he started growling at me after a day of trying all of this (and yes, he will bite!)

What worked:  Pork steak!  I cut three smallish pieces put a slit in each one and pushed one of each of his pills in.  Fed him off my plate and he never even blinked or chewed.  Not good I know, but when you're desperate to get meds down them ... you do what you have to do.   Now I can actually wrap each pill in a piece of roast beef from the deli and he gulps it right down. :)

Finding Joy in Life

This was the message Tar gave today. It was wonderful! And makes so much sense. Wanted to share for those of you that are not lucky enough to attend our church.

Philippians 4:4-9

Finding joy in life is...

I. A matter of choices:
a. Choose to Rejoice:
Joy is a choice
Joy is found in the Lord

Joy is not based on circumstances, it is a matter of choice.

Joy is not a denial that bad things happen in life.

Two Reasons You Don't Have Joy in Your Life:
i. The Lord is not in your life
ii. Jesus is only your personal Savior, not the Lord of your life.

B. Choose to be Gentle:
Gentleness imitates Christ.
Gentleness is a Fruit of The Spirit.

J -Jesus
O -Others
Y -You

C. Choose not to worry:
Don't waste time focusing on external reasons to worry; finances, sickness ...
Don't be consumed by issues.

Joy and Worry cannot co-exist.

If you feel you have financial issues that make you worry, take a good look at yourself and you will probably find that you are living beyond your means and need to cut back. It's something you can fix instead of worrying about it.

Are you a complainer? Look at yourself and see what you can fix that you complain about. Do you complain about being sick? Are you taking care of yourself? You have no reason to complain if you yourself can keep it from happening.

External issues become internal issues.

Sometimes when you are tired, you simply need to rest.

Stop trying to "fix" things yourself, you are suppose to call on God.

Do you fill your life with too many activities that keep yo from spending time with God and learning His Word?
Those activities are YOUR choice.

Consider these statistics (from Douglas J. Rumford "Scared to Life")
60% of our fears are unfounded20% of our fears are in the past10% of our fears are petty and amount to nothing5% of our fears are real, but we cannot fix them5% of our fears are real, and we can fix them

D. Choose to pray
Why worry, when you can pray?
Prayers are answered and Prayer DOES work!

E. Choose to be thankful!Think you don't have anything to be thankful for?

Consider this:
Over 1 million people won't survive this week due to health issues.
20 million people will experience real fear from battles, starvation and lonelieness from imprisonment because of wars arond the world.
3 billion people can't attend church without fear of harrassment, torture, jail or death

If you have food, clothing, a roof over your head and a place to sleep you are richer than 75% of the world.

Choose to rejoice
Choose to be gentle
Choose not to worry
Choose to pray
Choose to be thankful

Choose a Life with Jesus at the center and your joy will be abundant.

Philippians 4:4-9
Rejoice in the Lord always: again I will say, Rejoice. 5 Let your forbearance be known unto all men. The Lord is at hand. 6 In nothing be anxious; but in everything by prayer and supplication with thanksgiving let your requests be made known unto God. 7 And the peace of God, which passeth all understanding, shall guard your hearts and your thoughts in Christ Jesus. 8 Finally, brethren, whatsoever things are true, whatsoever things are honorable, whatsoever things are just, whatsoever things are pure, whatsoever things are lovely, whatsoever things are of good report; if there be any virtue, and if there be any praise, think on these things. 9 The things which ye both learned and received and heard and saw in me, these things do: and the God of peace shall be with you.

Does she sound familiar?

Does she sound familiar?

She has a huge heart and would bend over backwards to help someone.
She's loyal to the ones that mean something to her.
She smiles like she's never been hurt, but it happens more often than we realize.
She's fragile, it takes very little to hurt her; she takes everything to heart.
She's cautious and rarely lets people close to her.
She's more critical of herself than anyone else.

She'd rather look to the future than worry about the past.
She doesn't expect to be noticed, listened to or loved, although she deserves to be.
She's not what you would expect but you will benefit the most by having her in your life.

Life Lessons from James - What Does Your Tongue Say About You?

Today's Church Service: Life Lessons from James- What Does Your Tongue Say About You?
T - Is it True?
H - Is it Helpful?
I - Is it Inspiring?
N - Is it Necessary?
K - Is it Kind?
Simply put ... THINK before you speak!

James 3:1-12

Taming the Tongue

1 Not many of you should presume to be teachers, my brothers, because you know that we who teach will be judged more strictly. 2 We all stumble in many ways. If anyone is never at fault in what he says, he is a perfect man, able to keep his whole body in check. 3 When we put bits into the mouths of horses to make them obey us, we can turn the whole animal. 4 Or take ships as an example. Although they are so large and are driven by strong winds, they are steered by a very small rudder wherever the pilot wants to go. 5 Likewise the tongue is a small part of the body, but it makes great boasts. Consider what a great forest is set on fire by a small spark. 6 The tongue also is a fire, a world of evil among the parts of the body. It corrupts the whole person, sets the whole course of his life on fire, and is itself set on fire by hell. 7 All kinds of animals, birds, reptiles and creatures of the sea are being tamed and have been tamed by man, 8 but no man can tame the tongue. It is a restless evil, full of deadly poison. 9 With the tongue we praise our Lord and Father, and with it we curse men, who have been made in God's likeness. 10 Out of the same mouth come praise and cursing. My brothers, this should not be. 11 Can both fresh water and saltwater flow from the same spring? 12 My brothers, can a fig tree bear olives, or a grapevine bear figs? Neither can a salt spring produce fresh water.

The smallest word can destroy a persons life.
Your tongue can be dangerous, it is destructive.

An authentic believer of Jesus Christ will change the way they speak, they will not continue to speak badly and curse the way they did before they were a new creation by asking Jesus to forgive them and come into their hearts.

Keep your words sweet, in case you need to eat them!

Remembering September 11, 2001

Today as I ready for Church I hear and see all of the remembrances of 9/11 on the television.   It was a horrific and sad attack against our nation. My heart goes out to the victims who lost family and friends, and to those that lost faith even more so.  We are not unique or so special that we should have been completely surprised.  Everywhere evil attacks and causes havoc, we see it daily, we were just complacent because we've not had to deal with it first hand. Evil is not new to this world, just watch the news every day and you will see it rearing its ugly head all over the world.  Yes, it was a huge wake up call to the United States, because not since Pearl Harbor had our country been attacked so brutally and without apparent warning, with the exception on the Oklahoma City bombing.  It does not matter that the OKC attacks were not carried out by a foreign group, what matters is it was an unexpected attack.

Either way we all need to put our focus back where it belongs, on God and family. Believers world wide need to be stronger in our beliefs and share the word of God and the salvation of Jesus.  The world in general would be a much better place if people would look into their hearts and see that they need Jesus to help them walk through this world in the way God wishes us to. Turning our back, doing what "we" want and not following God's word has made the world the way it is today. Think it about it people.

This Weeks Bible Study

This weeks Bible Study is about Appraising ourselves ...
 Are we prideful?
Do we compare ourselves to
others?
Do we think we're better than others?
Are we focused on what we want or what God wants?

‎"A proud man is always looking down on things and people; and , of course, as long as you're looking down, you can't see something that's above you." - C.S. Lewis

Some of us don't even realize when we are being prideful. Here are some examples: Impatience with traffic, irritation with the store clerk, criticism of a relatives behavior, sarcasm about other people's lack of morality and intelligence, fear of failure, defensiveness when criticized, desire for control, even when our actions are honorable they are not entirely free of pride.

God the Father

If you do not ask, you do not receive. Anyone that is a parent knows that at some point you have to allow your children to make their own way and even if you see them messing up or going down the wrong path you have to allow them to learn and hope they will find their way. A parent can't force their grown child to do everything their way, and sometimes that means allowing young parents to make mistakes with their own children... until that young parent becomes smart enough to ask for their parents' input and help. God is not that different as our Father, we are all sinners and God watches and waits for us to turn to him and ask for forgiveness, help and guidance. It's pretty simple really. Because the world is sinful, bad things do happen to good people, but that's because of the choices we humans make. If we are not following the guidance of our Heavenly Father then we are not living our lives the way He wants. To find True fulfillment in this earthbound life, we must first accept Jesus as our Saviour and learn God's word and walk in the Light with Him, living our lives to help others and doing everything in the Glory of God.

Newest Creations

I've discovered Quilling and I love it!
Here are the first two creations I designed and made today.  They will be available on my Etsy Shop.. or you can contact me on here of Facebook.

Any letter, any name...  any colors.

If you want God's help....

If you want God's help, you need to ask for it.  Praying is simple and quite honestly the easiest thing you'll ever do in your life.  After you learn that prayer is just talking to God, you'll find yourself doing it constantly, which is a good thing~  We should all be a Prayer Warriors!   God is there for us every second, of every day, of every week, of every month, of every year... to infinity.  He may not always answer your prayer the way YOU think it should be answered, but you will get an answer, sometimes better than what you wanted, sometimes not, but God knows what's best for you.  We have to learn to walk down that path with him and listen and watch for what he wants for us.  Once you've accepted Jesus, you're life will be more fulfilling and you will no longer wonder what purpose your life has.  We all have a purpose, we just have to open our eyes and hearts and learn what it is.  God will let us know!

Working...

I spent part of the day yesterday working on a new style painting, which I really like.  I'll be posting pictures soon, as it progresses.  The other part of the day I spent creating and uploading cards to my card shop.   Some can be seen below.

o Bake Protein Nutrition Bar Recipe

Prep Time: 5 hours
Total Time: 5 hours
Ingredients:
5 tablespoons natural peanut butter (chunky or smooth)
1/2 cup dry oats or whole grain hot cereal (uncooked)
1/2 cup oat flour * (double the oats if you do not have oat flour)
6 scoops low-carb chocolate whey protein (or about ~132 grams protein)
1 teaspoon vanilla
2 tablespoons flax seeds (optional)
1 cup non-fat dry milk
1/2 cup water (depending on what type of protein you use, you may need more)
Preparation:
Spray an 8x8 baking dish with non-stick cooking spray. Combine dry ingredients in a medium size bowl and mix well. Add peanut butter and mix - the mixture will be crumbly and dry. Add water & vanilla. Using a wooden spoon or rubber spatula, everything until a dough forms. The dough will be sticky. Spread dough into pan using a clean wooden spoon or spatula that has been sprayed with non-stick cooking spray. Refrigerate a few hours (or freeze for an hour) and cut into 9 squares. Wrap bars individually (use sandwich bags or plastic wrap) or store in covered container between sheets of wax paper. Keep refrigerated. Modifications: Use vanilla protein and replace ~1/4 cup of the oatflour with a variety of nuts, seeds, or dried berries. Chopped almonds, hazelnuts, cashews, peanuts, flax seeds, sesame seeds, pumpkin seeds, raisins, or dried cranberries would all work well. * Making Oatmeal/Oat Flour: To make your own oat flour, all you need to do is put a cup or two of oatmeal in a regular household blender and blend it on high...it will turn into a flour. Store in a covered bowl in the pantry. It takes 1 minute and is VERY easy and cheap alternative to buying in the store. Nutritional Information Per Serving: 197 calories, 21 g protein, 7.2 g fat (8% saturated), 13.7 g carbohydrate, 1.6 g fiber

peanut butter fudge protein bar

-4 tbsp natural peanut butter

-1/4 cup water

-stevia or natural sweetener (optional)

-2 tbspn coca powder (optional)

-divide mixture into 4 equal portions and place in separate pieces of plastic wrap placing them into bars. It's easier to shape them by lying plastic wrap on one side of a small casserole dish, pressing the dough into the natural shape of the dish.

If you judge people, you have no time to love them.

~ Mother Teresa

If you walk in the Spirit, you won't do it.....

"If you walk in the Spirit, you won't do it."  This simple message can be found  in Galatians 5: 16-18
16 So I say, live by the Spirit, and you will not gratify the desires of the sinful nature. 17 For the sinful nature desires what is contrary to the Spirit, and the Spirit what is contrary to the sinful nature. They are in conflict with each other, so that you do not do what you want. 18 But if you are led by the Spirit, you are not under law.

I'm sitting here watching Creflo Dollar.  I've never heard of him before, but I'm so happy to have found him on TBN.  He's engaging and tells it like it is (much like my preacher, Tar Henderson). What I'm hearing him say makes so much sense it's unbelievable to me that people can't  understand.  If you continue to live your life away from God you will continue to do "it".  Okay so you're wondering what "it' is. It's different for everyone; for some it's drugs, for some it's cheating, for some it's stealing and for others it's all of these and more.

People often say "well this is just how I am".. WRONG, you can be who you want to be,  it doesn't just happen to you.  God made us in his image, He is not a drug user, a rapist, a thief, a murderer, lazy, etc... therefore we are not suppose to be either. But as sinful humans we turn away from God and walk down the wrong paths. God never turns his back on us, we turn our back on him.  He is always there waiting on the Right Path, ready for us to come back and take His hand again.

The problem I see with our society is walking with God is work, at least that's what people think.  It should be second nature, if done right. The work is learning all we can about God's Word. Doing His Will isn't work at all, it's fulfillment.   When we walk in the Spirit we find our lives to be so completely fulfilled, we realize it's not work at all, but a joy.

All you have to do is ask Jesus to forgive you of your sins, come into your heart and life forever.  You can do this quietly where you sit. You don't have to make a grand gesture, it's between you and God. He hears you at all times.
It's a free gift from God; to allow us to wipe the slate clean and start living and walking in the Light with Him.
You can't argue with free can you? I mean really, what do you have to lose?
Think of what you have to gain.

Working...

I'm working on some new hand-drawn name and letter designs!  These are rough drafts, but I really like the way they are coming together.

1 Corinthians 10:13

13No temptation has seized you except what is common to man. And God is faithful; he will not let you be tempted beyond what you can bear. But when you are tempted, he will also provide a way out so that you can stand up under it.

Life Lessons from James... Recognizing Temptation

James 1:13-18
3When tempted, no one should say, "God is tempting me." For God cannot be tempted by evil, nor does he tempt anyone;14but each one is tempted when, by his own evil desire, he is dragged away and enticed.15Then, after desire has conceived, it gives birth to sin; and sin, when it is full-grown, gives birth to death.16Don't be deceived, my dear brothers.17Every good and perfect gift is from above, coming down from the Father of the heavenly lights, who does not change like shifting shadows.18He chose to give us birth through the word of truth, that we might be a kind of firstfruits of all he created.
Temptation is not the sin, the wrong response to the temptation is the sin.
I. The Reality of Temptation  A. Temptation is universal....           EVERYONE deals with temptation, EVERYONE is tempted!  B. Temptation is inevitable....           Temptation is ALWAYS around us, good or bad.

It's how we respond to temptation that matters, not that we are tempted.
II. The Root of Temptation
A. God is not responsible for temptation. God is not the creator of evil, but he does allow it because we are a sinful society.

B. Realize the nature of temptation:
   1. The source is individual
    2. The source is internal
C. Realize the process of temptation.
4-D's
 Desire
 Deception
 Disobedience
 Death
III. The Reminder about Temptation
A. Remember God's guidance
B. Remember God's gifts

No Bakes always a hit in August!

The hubs needed something for his lunches and I didn't really want to fire up the oven..even though we've had quite a bit of rain this week it's made it humid here (only time during the year that we have humidity! ;p)  So I decided to make no-bake cookies!

This is the recipe I used.. I tweaked it a bit because of what I had on hand to use but they taste a-m-a-z-i-n-g

1/2 cup butter (I used 1/4 cup and 1 tsp Wilton butter flavoring)
2 cups sugar
1/2 cup milk (didn't have any so I used 1/4 cup water and 1 Tblsp Mayo)
1/4 cup cocoa powder
1 1/2 tsp vanilla (didn't have any so I used 1 1/2 tsp maple extract)
1/2 cup peanut butter
3 cups quick oats

Add everything (except oats) to pan, stir and bring to boil..
Boil 1 minute take off heat then stir in oats

Drop by teaspoon onto wax paper.

Let set and enjoy!!

The more you have, the more you are occupied, the less you give.
But the less you have the more free you are. Poverty for us is a freedom.
It is not a mortification, a penance. It is joyful freedom.
There is no television here, no this, no that.
But we are perfectly happy.

1 small onion (diced)
1 small can mushrooms (drained well)
2 cups hamburger (I used leftover meat from making meatballs)
2 cups diced ham (used some from the ham Mom smoked the other day)

We sauteed the onions and mushrooms in one teaspoon of butter...
Place both slices of French bread on cookie sheet.

Then add sauce to bread, then layer all ingredients as you like...

Bake for 10 - 12 minutes @ 350 degrees.

Sorry the picture isn't better... forgot to snap a shot with my phone before we cut them and started eating. ;)

Random Thought....

How long does it take someone to learn that the daily struggle and not knowing what to do with life would be somewhat alleviated if they'd turn their life over to God.  Accept Jesus in your life, it's the only way!
